How it works
Density is the number of times a word or phrase appears, divided by the total word count, times 100. The total counts every word, including stop words.
The stop word filter skips common English words such as the, and and of. Phrases may contain a stop word in the middle but cannot start or end with one.
Two and three word phrases must appear at least twice to be listed, and they never run across a sentence end or a line break.
The target keyword is matched as a whole word or phrase, ignoring case, and like the phrase tables it is not counted across a sentence end or line break. Text over 300,000 characters is rejected.
Everything runs in your browser. Your input is not uploaded or stored.
Questions and answers
How is keyword density calculated?
Divide how many times the keyword appears by the total number of words, then multiply by 100. Five uses in 250 words is 2%.
What is a good keyword density?
There is no official number. Write for readers first, and if a phrase stands out far above everything else, reword some uses.
What are stop words?
Very common words like the, is and for. Filtering them out makes the topic words easier to see.
