How to use the meta tag generator

- Press Run.
- Use Copy result and paste the tags into your page's head section.
How it works
Text is HTML-escaped, so characters such as &, <, > and quotes cannot break the markup.
The tool warns when the title is over 60 characters or the description is over 160, since search results often cut text near those lengths.
The canonical URL must be an absolute http or https address, and the theme color must be a hex color such as #1f6f8b.
It notes when index, follow is chosen, because that is already the default, and when noindex is combined with a canonical URL.
Everything runs in your browser. Your input is not uploaded or stored.
Questions and answers
How long should a meta description be?
Roughly 70 to 160 characters. Search engines often cut longer descriptions, and they may write their own snippet anyway.
Do I need a robots meta tag?
Only if you want something other than the default, which is index, follow. Use noindex to keep a page out of search results.
What is a canonical URL?
It tells search engines which address is the main version of a page when the same content can be reached at several URLs.
