How it works
A word is a run of letters or numbers in any language. Words joined by an apostrophe, like don't, count as one, while hyphenated words like well-known count as two.
Characters are counted both with and without whitespace. Spaces, tabs and line breaks are whitespace.
Paragraphs are blocks of text separated by at least one blank line.
Reading time is given in seconds, rounded up, using a whole-number pace from 1 to 1000 words per minute.
uniqueWordsIgnoringCase counts different words, treating The and the as the same word.
Everything runs in your browser. Your input is not uploaded or stored.
