How to use the time card calculator

  1. Type one shift per line, such as Mon 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM, break 30.
  2. Enter an Hourly rate in USD (optional), or leave it blank to skip pay.
  3. Pick Round each clock time if your employer rounds punches.
  4. Press Run, then use Copy result or Download.

How it works

Each line needs a start time and an end time joined by a hyphen or the word "to". A label like Mon and a break such as "break 30" or "lunch 0:45" are optional.

Hours worked equal the end time minus the start time minus the break. If the end time is earlier than the start, the shift is treated as ending the next day.

Decimal hours are minutes divided by 60. Gross pay is total decimal hours times the hourly rate, before taxes, with no overtime added.

Rounding moves each clock time to the nearest 5, 6 or 15 minutes before hours are added up.

Times without AM or PM are read as 24-hour times, and up to 31 lines are allowed.

Everything runs in your browser. Your input is not uploaded or stored.

Questions and answers

How do I convert hours and minutes to decimal hours?

Divide the minutes by 60 and add them to the hours. For example, 7 hours 45 minutes is 7.75 hours.

Does it calculate overtime?

No. It multiplies all hours by one rate. Use the overtime pay calculator if you earn a higher rate for extra hours.

Can I enter a night shift?

Yes. Enter a shift such as 10:00 PM - 6:00 AM and it is counted as ending the next day.

Is this an official payroll record?

No. It is an estimate to help you check hours. Your employer's payroll system and local law decide the final pay.
