Time calculator

This time calculator adds and subtracts times written the way people say them, such as 9:30 AM + 2:45 or 1h 30m - 45m. It can find a finish time, the time between two clock times, or a total of several durations. It is handy for schedules, cooking, travel and shift planning.

AM or PM always marks a clock time

Result

9:30 AM + 2:45 = 12:15 PM (12:15 in 24-hour time)
2:45 + 1:30:15 = 4:15:15 (255.25 minutes)
10:15 PM + 3h 30m = 1:45 AM, next day (01:45 in 24-hour time)
5:30 PM - 8:45 AM = 8:45:00 (525 minutes) from 8:45 AM to 5:30 PM

Example

Input
9:30 AM + 2:45
2:45 + 1:30:15
10:15 PM + 3h 30m
5:30 PM - 8:45 AM

How to use the time calculator

  1. Type one expression per line in the box, such as 9:30 AM + 2:45 or 2:45 + 1:30:15.
  2. Choose how Times without AM or PM are read: as durations, or the first one as a 24-hour clock time.
  3. Press Run.
  4. Use Copy result or Download to keep the answers.

How it works

A time with AM or PM is a clock time. Values like 2:45 or 1:30:15 are hours:minutes or hours:minutes:seconds durations, and you can also write units such as 2h, 30m, 15s or 1d.

A clock time plus or minus durations gives a clock time and notes if it lands on the next day, the previous day or further.

Two clock times subtracted (end minus start) give the time between them. If the end is earlier, it is taken as the next day.

Durations alone give a total in h:mm:ss and total minutes, and the total can be negative.

Each line can have up to 20 terms, and up to 50 lines are allowed. A bare number such as 45 is rejected because the unit is unclear.

Questions and answers

What is 9:30 AM plus 2 hours 45 minutes?

12:15 PM. Type 9:30 AM + 2:45 and press Run.

How do I find the time between two clock times?

Type the end time minus the start time, such as 5:30 PM - 8:45 AM. The result is 8:45:00, or 525 minutes.

How is this different from the duration calculator?

This tool reads AM and PM clock times and mixed expressions on one line. The duration calculator adds or subtracts a list of hours:minutes:seconds values.
