How to use the tip calculator
- Enter the bill amount.
- Choose a Tip of 15%, 18%, 20% or 25%, or choose Custom percent and enter the Custom tip percent.
- Enter the Number of people and choose whether to Round each share, then press Run.
- Press Copy result to share the split.
How it works
Tip = bill x tip percent, rounded to the cent. Total = bill + tip.
Without rounding, the total is split to the cent. If it does not divide evenly, some people pay one cent more and the result says how many.
With rounding on, each share is rounded up to the next whole dollar and the extra is added to the tip, so the effective tip percent can rise.
The number of people must be a whole number from 1 to 100, and the custom tip can be 0% to 100%.

Is the tip on the bill before or after tax?
The tip is figured on whatever amount you enter. Enter the pre-tax subtotal if you prefer to tip on that.
