How to use the retirement savings calculator

  1. Enter your Current age, Retirement age and Current retirement savings.

How it works

Each month your contribution plus the employer match is added at month end, and the balance grows at the monthly rate equal to your expected annual return.

Your contribution rises by the annual increase percent once a year. Employer match is a percent of your contribution, with no salary cap.

Today's dollars divide the future balance by (1 + inflation) once for each year until retirement.

Taxes, fees, match limits and withdrawals are not modeled, so the result is an estimate.

Everything runs in your browser. Your input is not uploaded or stored.

Questions and answers

How does the employer match work here?

Enter the match as a percent of what you put in. 50 means your employer adds 50 cents for each dollar you contribute. Real plans often cap the match, so use the effective rate.

What does today's dollars mean?

It is the future balance shrunk by inflation, so you can see what it would buy at today's prices.

Does this include taxes?

No. It does not model taxes on contributions, growth or withdrawals.
