How to use the csv to markdown table

  1. Paste CSV into the CSV with a header row box.
  2. Choose the CSV separator: Comma, Semicolon or Tab.
  3. Choose a Column alignment.
  4. Press Run, then Copy result or Download.

How it works

The first row becomes the table header. Quoted fields follow RFC 4180, so commas, doubled quotes and line breaks inside quotes are read correctly.

A | inside a cell is escaped as \| and a line break inside a cell becomes <br>. Spaces at the start and end of each cell are trimmed.

Rows with fewer fields than the header are filled with empty cells. Rows with more fields are rejected, because that usually means an unquoted separator.

Columns are padded with spaces so the source lines up, unless the table is very large. Blank lines are skipped, and at most 100,000 rows are accepted.

Everything runs in your browser. Your input is not uploaded or stored.

Questions and answers

How do I align columns in a Markdown table?

Choose Left, Center or Right in Column alignment. The tool adds colons to the divider row, such as :-: for centered columns.

What happens to a pipe character in my data?

It is written as \| so it shows as a pipe instead of starting a new column.

Can I convert Excel data?

Yes. Save the sheet as CSV and paste it, or paste cells copied straight from the spreadsheet and choose Tab as the CSV separator.

Is my data uploaded?

No. It runs in your browser, and nothing you paste is sent to a server.
