How to use the html to text converter
- Paste HTML into the HTML box.
- Choose Links: Link text only, or Text followed by (URL).
- Press Run.
- Use Copy result or Download to save the text.
How it works
Script, style, template, noscript and head content is dropped, along with comments.
Paragraphs, headings, block quotes and tables are separated by a blank line, while br, div and table rows start a new line. List items become - bullets or numbered items, and nested lists are indented.
Named entities such as &, and © and numeric references are decoded. Runs of spaces and line breaks collapse to one space, except inside pre blocks.
Table cells in a row are separated by a tab. With the URL option, links show as text (url), except page anchors and javascript: links.
This is plain text processing, not a browser, so it does not run scripts or apply CSS such as display: none.
Everything runs in your browser. Your input is not uploaded or stored.
Questions and answers
Does it remove hidden text?
Only text inside script, style, template, noscript and head tags. Text hidden with CSS is still included, because styles are not applied.
Can I keep link addresses?
Yes. Choose Text followed by (URL) in Links, and each link appears as its text followed by the address in parentheses.
Is it safe to paste untrusted HTML?
Yes. The tool never runs the HTML. It only reads it as text and returns plain text.
Is my HTML uploaded?
No. It runs in your browser, and nothing you paste is sent to a server.
