Binary to text converter
This converter reads binary code, eight bits per byte, and turns it back into text. Students and puzzle solvers use it to decode binary messages, and developers use it to check bit-level data.

Hi 👋
How to use the binary to text converter
- Paste binary into the Binary digits box.
- Press Run.
- Read the decoded text, or the error that explains what to fix.
- Use Copy result or Download to keep it.
How it works
Only 0, 1 and whitespace such as spaces and line breaks are allowed. Any other character is reported with its line and column.
Spaces between bytes are optional. When groups are separated, each group must have a multiple of 8 bits, and the total must be a multiple of 8.
The bytes are read as UTF-8, so multi-byte characters such as é and emoji decode correctly.
Bytes that do not form valid UTF-8 are rejected instead of being shown as replacement characters. Input is limited to 1,000,000 characters.
Everything runs in your browser. Your input is not uploaded or stored.
Questions and answers
Why does it say a group has 7 bits?
Some binary messages use 7-bit ASCII. This tool needs 8 bits per byte, so add a leading 0 to each 7-bit group.
What does the UTF-8 error mean?
The bits are valid binary but do not form valid text, often because a bit is missing, extra or flipped.
Can it decode binary without spaces?
Yes. A continuous run of digits is split into bytes of 8 bits.
Is my data uploaded?
No. It runs in your browser, and nothing you paste is sent to a server.
