How it works
Supported syntax: # headings, paragraphs, *emphasis* and **strong**, `code spans`, fenced code blocks with a language class, > block quotes, nested ordered and bulleted lists, links, images, horizontal rules, and line breaks made with two trailing spaces or a backslash.
It follows CommonMark rules for these features in a simplified way. Underlined (setext) headings, indented code blocks, tables and reference-style links are not supported.
By default any HTML in your Markdown is escaped, so <b> shows as text. Pass it through only for Markdown you trust.
Links and images that use javascript:, vbscript:, data: or file: addresses get # as their address instead.
Lists and quotes nested more than 40 levels deep are rejected.
Everything runs in your browser. Your input is not uploaded or stored.
Questions and answers
Why does my HTML tag show as text?
Raw HTML is escaped by default for safety. Choose Pass it through unchanged if the Markdown comes from a source you trust.
Are Markdown tables supported?
No. GitHub-flavored tables and footnotes are left as plain paragraph text. Task list items such as - [ ] become normal list items, with the [ ] brackets kept as plain text.
Does it add CSS styling?
No. The output is plain HTML elements such as h1, p, ul and code, which take on the styles of your page.
Is my text uploaded?
No. It runs in your browser, and nothing you paste is sent to a server.
