How to use the csv numeric column statistics

  1. Paste CSV with a header row into the CSV with a header box.
  2. Set Input separator and type the header name in Numeric column.
  3. Choose Nonnumeric cells: Stop and show the row, or Count and skip.
  4. Press Run, then Copy result or Download.

How it works

The result shows row counts plus min, max, sum, mean, median and population standard deviation.

Standard deviation divides by the number of values. This is the population version, not the sample version that divides by one less.

Empty cells are counted as blank and skipped. A cell holding only spaces is not blank, so it counts as nonnumeric.

Numbers must be plain, like 12, -3.5 or 1e3. Currency symbols, percent signs and thousands separators like 1,000 make a cell nonnumeric.

The column name must match the header exactly, including case.

Everything runs in your browser. Your input is not uploaded or stored.

Questions and answers

How do I find the average of a CSV column?

Paste the CSV, type the column name in Numeric column, and press Run. The mean in the result is the average.

Which standard deviation does it use?

It reports population standard deviation, which divides by the count of values. For the sample version, which divides by one less, use a dedicated standard deviation calculator.

What happens to cells with text?

By default the tool stops and names the first row that is not a plain number. Choose Count and skip to ignore those cells and see how many there were.

Is my CSV uploaded?

No. The math runs in your browser, so the numbers in your file stay on your computer.
