CSV profiler

The CSV profiler gives you a quick health check of a CSV file before you import or analyze it. For each column it reports blanks, distinct values, the kinds of values found and a few samples, and it never changes your data.

How to use the csv profiler

  1. Paste CSV with a header row into the CSV with a header box.
  2. Set Input separator to match your file.
  3. Press Run to build the profile.
  4. Read the report, then Copy result or Download it.

How it works

The report starts with the number of data rows and columns, then gives one entry per column.

blankCells counts empty cells, and whitespaceOnlyCells counts cells that hold only spaces or other blank characters.

distinctValuesIncludingBlank counts different values, with an empty cell counted as one value. Matching is exact, so Ada and ada are different.

observedTypes sorts filled cells into boolean text (lowercase true or false), integer text, number text and text. A value like 007 counts as text.

sampleValues shows up to three different nonblank values from each column.

Everything runs in your browser. Your input is not uploaded or stored.

Questions and answers

What is CSV profiling?

Profiling means summarizing what is in each column, such as how many cells are empty and what kinds of values appear. It helps you spot missing data or mixed types before an import.

Does the profiler change my file?

No. It only reads the CSV and returns a JSON report about it.

Why does it say a row has the wrong number of fields?

Every row must have as many fields as the header. Check the named row for an extra separator or a missing quote.

Is my CSV uploaded?

No. The profile is built locally in your browser, and nothing is sent to SnowRock or anyone else.
