How to use the number range summarizer

  1. Paste your numbers in the Numbers box, such as -2, 3, 3, 4, 10.
  2. Separate values with commas, spaces, semicolons or new lines.
  3. Press Run to see Count, Minimum, Maximum, Range, Sum, Mean and Median.
  4. Press Copy result or Download to save the summary.

How it works

Range = maximum - minimum. For -2, 3, 3, 4, 10 the range is 10 - (-2) = 12.

The median is found after sorting, and it averages the two middle values when the count is even.

Negative numbers and e notation like 4.2e-3 are accepted. Up to 5,000 numbers fit in one run.

Results use floating point math with compensated summation and show up to 12 significant digits.

Empty input, text, and numbers larger than 1e100 in size are rejected with an error.

Everything runs in your browser. Your input is not uploaded or stored.

Questions and answers

How do you find the range of a set of numbers?

Subtract the smallest number from the largest. In 3, 8, 15 the range is 15 - 3 = 12.

Does it show the mode?

No. It shows the count, minimum, maximum, range, sum, mean and median, but not the mode.

Can I summarize a spreadsheet column?

Yes. Copy just the cells with numbers and paste them. Each cell arrives on its own line, which counts as a separator.
