MIME type lookup
This MIME type lookup tells you which Content-Type goes with a file, or which file extensions go with a MIME type. Developers setting up servers, uploads and email attachments use it so files are served and opened correctly.

Example
png report.pdf .woff2 backup.tar.gz application/json file.xyz
png -> image/png report.pdf -> application/pdf .woff2 -> font/woff2 backup.tar.gz -> application/gzip (a compressed tar archive) application/json -> .json, .map file.xyz -> .xyz is not in the built-in table Built-in table: 151 extensions. Servers can be configured differently, so check the Content-Type header your server actually sends.
How to use the mime type lookup
- Enter one extension, file name or MIME type per line in the input box.
- Press Run.
- Read each result, then use Copy result or Download.
How it works
Extensions are matched without regard to case, with or without a leading dot. For file names only the last extension is used, so backup.tar.gz gives application/gzip with a note.
Entering a MIME type such as image/jpeg lists every extension in the table that uses it, and parameters such as charset are ignored.
The table covers about 150 common extensions across images, video, audio, documents, fonts, archives, web files, code and data.
Unknown extensions or types are reported as not in the table rather than guessed.
Everything runs in your browser. Your input is not uploaded or stored.
