How to use the sitemap xml generator
- Paste one URL per line into the input box. You can add a lastmod date, a changefreq word and a priority after each URL.
- Optionally set Default changefreq, Default priority and Default lastmod for lines that leave them out.
- Press Run.
- Use Download or Copy result, then upload the file to your site as sitemap.xml.
How it works
Every URL must be an absolute http or https address on the same protocol and host, shorter than 2,048 characters, with spaces and non-ASCII characters already percent-encoded.
Characters such as & are XML-escaped, so a query string like ?a=1&b=2 becomes ?a=1&b=2.
lastmod must be a real date such as 2026-10-01 or a W3C datetime with a time zone, and priority must be from 0.0 to 1.0 with up to two decimals, kept as you typed it.
Duplicate URLs are rejected, and up to 50,000 URLs are allowed, which is the sitemap protocol limit.

How many URLs can a sitemap have?
The sitemap protocol allows up to 50,000 URLs and 50 MB uncompressed per file. Larger sites split their URLs across several sitemaps listed in a sitemap index.
Does Google use changefreq and priority?
Google says it ignores changefreq and priority. It does use lastmod when the dates are consistently accurate.
Where do I put sitemap.xml?
Usually at the root of your site, such as https://www.example.com/sitemap.xml. You can list it in robots.txt with a Sitemap line and submit it in search engine webmaster tools.
