SHA-512 hasher
This tool calculates the SHA-512 hash of text, a 512-bit fingerprint written as 128 hexadecimal characters. It is handy for checking expected digests, comparing strings and testing code that uses SHA-512.

How to use the sha-512 hasher
- Enter the text in the Text to hash box.
- Set Hexadecimal letters to Lowercase or Uppercase to match the format you need.
- Press Run to get the digest.
- Copy result or Download the digest as a text file.
How it works
Input is encoded as UTF-8 before hashing, and every character, including hidden whitespace, changes the result.
The digest is always 128 hex characters, no matter how long the input is.
An empty box is valid and returns the SHA-512 digest of zero bytes.
Browsers only offer Web Crypto on secure (HTTPS) pages. Without it, the tool shows an error instead of a result.
SHA-512 is a one-way digest. It does not encrypt anything, and the original text cannot be recovered from the hash.
Everything runs in your browser. Your input is not uploaded or stored.
Questions and answers
What is the difference between SHA-256 and SHA-512?
Both belong to the SHA-2 family of hash functions. SHA-512 gives a longer 512-bit digest, while SHA-256 gives 256 bits. Use whichever one your system expects.
Can I reverse a SHA-512 hash?
No. A hash has no key and cannot be decrypted. It can only be matched by hashing a guess and comparing the results.
Does uppercase or lowercase change the hash?
No. Hex letters a to f mean the same values in either case. The Hexadecimal letters option only changes how they are written.
Can I hash a file?
No. This tool hashes text you type or paste, and that text stays in your browser.
