Unix timestamp converter

A Unix timestamp counts the time since January 1, 1970 at 00:00:00 UTC, which is called the epoch. This converter turns a timestamp into a readable UTC date, or turns a date and time back into a timestamp. Developers, data analysts and anyone reading server logs use it to make sense of raw numbers.

How to use the unix timestamp converter

  1. Pick a Direction: Unix timestamp to date, or ISO instant to Unix timestamp.
  2. For timestamps, set Unix input unit to Seconds or Milliseconds and type a whole number, such as 1704067200.
  3. For the ISO direction, type a date and time like 2024-01-01T00:00:00Z or 2024-01-01T09:00:00+09:00.
  4. Press Run, then use Copy result or Download.

How it works

Every result shows three lines: the ISO date in UTC, Unix seconds and Unix milliseconds.

Timestamps must be whole numbers. Negative values work and mean dates before 1970.

The tool does not guess the unit. You choose Seconds or Milliseconds yourself.

ISO input must include seconds and end in Z or an offset such as -05:00. Up to three fractional second digits are allowed, and leap seconds are rejected.

Dates must stay between the years 0001 and 9999.

Everything runs in your browser. Your input is not uploaded or stored.

Questions and answers

What is Unix epoch time?

It is the number of seconds that have passed since 00:00:00 UTC on January 1, 1970, ignoring leap seconds. For example, 1704067200 is 2024-01-01T00:00:00Z.

How can I tell if a timestamp is in seconds or milliseconds?

A current date in seconds has 10 digits, while the same moment in milliseconds has 13 digits. Choose the matching Unix input unit before you press Run.

Does this converter use my local time zone?

No. Timestamp results are always shown in UTC. To see a moment in another zone, copy the ISO result into the time zone converter.

Is my timestamp sent to a server?

No. The conversion runs in your browser, so your input stays on your device.
