How this estimate works

We calculate annual pay before and after your raise using 2026 tax rules, then divide the difference by your pay frequency. A 401(k) percentage grows with salary until it reaches the annual limit.

Your inflation assumption divides new take-home pay by one plus that rate, then subtracts current take-home pay. The separate target panel estimates the annual raise needed to reach a chosen paycheck increase.

Pay raise questions

How much more take-home pay could a 5% raise provide?

A 5% raise on $75,000 adds $3,750 a year before tax. For a single filer paid every two weeks, with no 401(k) contribution and state tax excluded, this estimate adds $101.47 to each paycheck.

Could moving into a higher federal bracket reduce my pay?

The higher rate applies only to income above that bracket’s threshold, so crossing it does not increase the rate on all your income. A percentage-based 401(k) contribution can also grow with salary; the calculator separates retirement savings from take-home pay.

How do I calculate a percentage raise before tax?

Multiply current salary by the raise percentage, then add that amount to current salary. For example, 5% of $75,000 is $3,750, bringing annual salary to $78,750.

How do I compare a dollar raise with a percentage raise?

Convert the percentage to dollars using your current salary, or switch modes above to keep the equivalent raise. For example, a 5% raise on $150,000 is $7,500, which exceeds a flat $3,000 raise before tax.
