About SnowRock
SnowRock is a data brokerage connecting U.S. business owners with buyers seeking data for AI training and evaluation. We research potential matches and coordinate introductions. Owners agree licenses and deliver data directly to buyers.
About this role
Business data becomes useful when it matches a particular task. A folder of financial reports, for example, may lack the source documents and review history needed to test how an AI system explains an adjustment. You will help SnowRock define these distinctions before a broad data request becomes an expensive search.
You will research how companies create and use records, examine published evidence and turn technical requirements into practical questions for buyers and owners. Your findings will guide sourcing priorities and explain where a proposed match is strong, weak or still uncertain. Work with colleagues to identify what a buyer needs to see before it can make a sound evaluation or purchasing decision.
The position is based in Michigan, with locations in Ludington and Traverse City. Work arrangements will be discussed during the hiring process.
What you will do
- Work with buyers to define the task they want to train or test, the information it requires and how they would judge a useful sample.
- Map relevant company workflows, including which systems create records, how those records connect and what information may be missing.
- Review primary research, public documentation and industry sources to assess demand without treating vendor marketing or one benchmark as settled evidence.
- Write sourcing briefs that identify essential record types, useful context, relevant time periods and questions an owner can reasonably answer.
- Compare potential data sources for task coverage, duplication, language, historical changes and the effort needed for a buyer to review them.
- Work with evaluation engineering to design small, interpretable checks that distinguish a promising description from evidence of a useful match.
- Publish clear internal findings and, when approved, useful public research that explains methods and limitations without revealing confidential company information.
What you bring
- Examples of research that changed a sourcing, product or technical decision, including the evidence behind your recommendation.
- Ability to learn an unfamiliar industry and identify the records behind a business process.
- Comfort reading technical papers and explaining research methods, uncertain findings and practical consequences in plain language.
- Ability to compare competing explanations and revise a view when stronger evidence appears.
- Relevant preparation through industry research, data work, technical study or another combination of training and experience.
Additional experience we value
- Experience defining datasets or evaluation tasks for AI applications.
- Experience interviewing subject specialists and translating their knowledge into a usable research brief.
- Familiarity with research tools for comparing documents, structured records or public datasets.
Compensation
The annual base salary range for this position is $270,000–$365,000 USD. Equity and benefits are additional. Your written offer will specify the package for your role.
